Associate Professor Ranil Gunewardene set up and has been the Director of Mental Health Services at Northern Beaches Hospital since its inception in 2018 where he has led the growth and maturation of the Service since. He is also a Director of the Mindlife Clinic Frenchs Forest and the Mindcafe Education Service.
Dr Ranil as he is more commonly known, has extensive clinical and leadership experience in both the public and private sectors of mental health, having worked in the Northern Sydney Local Health District since the year 2000. He also brings a wealth of experience from his 15 years in the role of Clinical Director of Mental Health Services at Mosman Private Hospital and the Hornsby KRG Mental Health Services.
Dr Ranil is dedicated to teaching and knowledge sharing in psychiatry, for both mental health clinicians and for consumers. He developed the Mindcafe Education Service to facilitate the education of health care professionals. Dr Ranil has presented at numerous teaching sessions and conferences and is an engaging speaker.
As a psychiatrist, he has extensive skills and experience in the treatment of mood, trauma, anxiety and psychotic disorders; amongst other areas of mental health. He has a passion for delivering excellence in service provision and continual improvement in patient care.
Dr Ranil brings a strong interest in innovative therapies; having been involved in published TMS research programs early in its exploration as a novel therapy in Australia. This is because he has seen the limitations of conventional therapies in his roles as the senior clinical expert of major mental health services. He has cared for numerous patients with severe treatment resistant depression and PTSD over his career. He has undertaken additional and ongoing specialised training in medicine enhanced therapies; to deliver these groundbreaking treatments for those who continue to suffer in our communities.

Dr Mosadek Miah is a general adult psychiatrist who provides evidence-based treatment for most common psychiatric conditions, including anxiety disorders (including panic attacks, OCD and PTSD), mood disorders (including depression and bipolar disorder), schizophrenia and other psychoses, addiction disorders, personality disorders and ADHD.
Dr Miah has special interest and experience in perinatal psychiatry, routinely managing women with psychiatric needs throughout pregnancy and the post-partum period, in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Dr Miah is associated with the Mother and Baby Unit at St John of God Burwood Hospital where he provides inpatient perinatal psychiatric care.
Dr Miah is experienced in providing treatment under Workers Compensation and other insurances. Dr Miah is also experienced in medico-legal matters, providing psychiatric assessments, treatment and expert reports for court purposes.
Dr Miah provides inpatient psychiatric care at Northern Beaches Hospital and St John of God Burwood Hospital. ECT (electro-convulsive therapy) and TMS (trans-cranial magnetic stimulation) are both available as treatment options. Dr Miah will see patients aged from 16 years up, as well as older patients aged 65 years onwards.
Dr Miah was raised in Sydney and obtained his undergraduate medical degree at the University of NSW in 2000. He gained general medical experience over many years before obtaining his specialist fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. Outside of career pursuits, Dr Miah enjoys recreational sports, travel, fine-art landscape photography and family life.

Dr Joanne Wright MBBS MGeriatric Med FRANZCP Cert (Old Age) Old Age Psychiatrist

Dr Wright is an Aged Care Psychiatrist with experience in the diagnosis and management of mental health conditions predominantly in elderly patients, but will see patients over the age of 60.
Dr Wright completed her Psychiatry training in Northern Sydney and has been a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists since 2007. She received her certificate of Advanced Training in Old Age Psychiatry from the RANZCP in 2009. Dr Wright also holds a Masters Degree in Geriatric Medicine from Edith Cowan University.
In 2007 she was awarded a Fellowship from The Institute of Psychiatry where she gained experience in palliative care. She has a particular interest in age related mental health presentations including:
• Cognitive impairment and behavioural problems in dementia
• Mood and anxiety disorders
• Psychosis and organic psychosis
• the neuropsychiatric complications of neurodegenerative disorders eg Parkinson's Disease
• Mental disorders in the palliative care setting
She is currently a Senior Staff Specialist at Hornsby Hospital in the Rehabilitation and Aged Care Department and is the only Psychiatrist within that Department.  She has extensive experience with managing the behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.  She has past experience working in regional and rural NSW.
At Mindlife Clinic, Dr Wright will see people over the age of 60 as well as those with young onset dementia or those with other neurodegenerative disorders.

Dr Suresh Goriparti trained in Psychiatry in the UK from prestigious Northern Deanery in Newcastle and obtained membership from the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK). Upon arrival in Australia, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
Since moving to Australia, he completed advanced training in Royal North Shore Hospital and Hornsby Hospital. He initially started at the Mental Health Intensive Care Unit and worked in a broad range of areas in NSLHD. He is currently working as a Visiting Medical Officer in psychiatry at Northern Beaches and Wyong Hospitals. He used to work in Hornsby Hospital as a Staff Specialist Psychiatrist.
Dr Goriparti uses both psychotherapy and pharmacotherapeutic interventions when treating his patients across a broad range of psychiatric conditions in adults. His special interests are psychosis, bipolar affective disorder and Adult ADHD.

DR KELLIE WINTER
Psychiatry, Older Persons Psychiatry

Dr Kellie Winter completed her medical training at the University of Newcastle, graduating in 2004, and is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. She is also a senior lecturer at the Macquarie University Medical School.
Dr Winter is an experienced psychiatrist who specialises in older people’s mental health, including depression, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. She has a particular clinical interest in the psychiatric management of organic disorders such as complex dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
Dr Winter has worked in a range of inpatient and community settings. She has worked extensively across the Northern Sydney Local Health District and has also delivered rural outreach services. Dr Winter is the Clinical Director of Psychogeriatrics at Northern Beaches Hospital and has been passionate about establishing a high-quality mental health service for older people on the Northern Beaches since the hospitals opening.
She is a member of RANZCP Section of Electroconvulsive Therapy and Neurostimulation and is experienced in all aspects of ECT. Dr Winter offers comprehensive and holistic biopsychosocial treatment and highly values the role of family in patient care.

Dr L. Mariano Llosa was the former Unit Director of the Brolga Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Unit. Dr Llosa is a trained General, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. He completed his training at Maimonides and St Luke’s Roosevelt Hospitals in New York, USA. He relocated to Australia in 2012 and since then has worked in Sydney’s North Shore and Northern Beaches.
Dr Llosa is an expert in most areas of child and adolescent mental health disorders. His main interests are anxiety, mood, psychotic and autism spectrum disorders in children, adolescents and young adults.
Dr Llosa’s holistic approach to psychiatry focuses on individual and family therapy, as well as medication management and healthy lifestyle.
He is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrist as well as of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr NICOLA WALLACE (she/her)

Dr Nicola Wallace is currently on extended leave. She is not currently able to see any new or previous clients or accept any referrals.


Dr Nicola Wallace is a Psychiatrist with specialist qualifications in Addiction Psychiatry. She brings a broad range of experience from her work and training in a variety of regional, remote and metropolitan settings across Australia.
Dr Wallace takes a holistic approach to patient care, using a combination of psychotherapy and medication to treat psychiatric and substance use conditions in adults. Dr Wallace has a special interest in gender diversity and has a focus on safe, inclusive care.
Patients are seen on an outpatient basis through Mindlife clinic. Where appropriate, planned inpatient admissions through Northern Beaches Private Hospital can be arranged.
At this stage Dr Wallace is not available for initial ADHD assessments or treatment through Workcover.

Dr Mark Hardy was born and raised in the northern beaches of Sydney. After attending local schools, he attended the University of Sydney. There, he concurrently completed his medical degree, along with a Bachelor of Science (Medical) majoring in Toxicology. After working in women’s health and general practice, Mark pursued training in Addiction Medicine at The Langton Centre, Surry Hills and Royal North Shore Hospital. Upon completion, he worked as a Staff Specialist at Northern Sydney Local Health District from 2011 to 2018, working mainly in the Northern Beaches. In 2018, he transitioned to private practice, in the lead-up to the opening of the new Northern Beaches Hospital. He has additionally consulted to other private hospitals, including The Sydney Clinic, The Hills Private Hospital and Mosman Private Hospital.

His professional interests are in:

    • Alcohol and other drugs detoxification, opioid treatment and risk management, prescription drug misuse and medicinal cannabis.

    • He has been a member of the Opioid Pharmacotherapy Subcommittee for NSW Health.

    • He has been seconded to the World Health Organisation to assist in preparation and delivery of training for trainers for both pharmacological and psychosocial treatments for opioid and other substance dependence.

    • He has provided education internationally to GPs and specialists in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Oceania

    • He has presented education and research at international conferences, both in Australia and abroad.


Dr Jane Cass-Verco completed her medical degree at the University of NSW. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, with an Advanced Training Certificate in Consultation-Liaison (general hospital) Psychiatry. Dr Cass-Verco completed a Master of International Public Health through the University of Sydney; and a Master of Psychiatry and Special Training Fellowship in Psycho-oncology with the NSW Institute of Psychiatry. Dr Cass-Verco is currently Clinical Lead and Senior Lecturer with Macquarie University Medical Program, and Site Coordinator of Psychiatry Training with Northern Sydney LHD.
Dr Cass-Verco specialises in mood and anxiety disorders in adults (18-65 years old), and is passionate about Indigenous mental health and holistic health care that embraces biological, psychotherapeutic and sociocultural aspects of wellbeing.

Dr Mukherjee completed his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Western Sydney. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). He completed further subspecialist training in Forensic Psychiatry to attain his Certificate in Forensic Psychiatry from the RANZCP and is currently a Member of the RANZCP Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry. He has a Master of Medicine in psychiatry (MMed) from The University of Sydney and a Master of Forensic Mental Health (MFMH) from University of New South Wales.
Dr Mukherjee works as a VMO Psychiatrist at the Northern Beaches Hospital and Northside Clinic St Leonards. He is a Forensic Psychiatrist for NSW Health, has a private medico legal practice and is involved with teaching and research. He is an accredited supervisor of training for the Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.
Dr Mukherjee has an interest in all areas of general psychiatry and provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment of ADHD, Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders and Personality Disorders. He believes in a biopsychosocial approach to psychiatry and the importance of trauma informed care.

Dr Brendan Smith is a general adult psychiatrist, practicing as a consultant psychiatrist since 2017. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Sydney in 2009 and completed specialist psychiatry training through the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).
Dr Smith has worked in a wide variety of roles in adult psychiatry, both public and private, inpatient and outpatient. He has held the position of Acting Clinical Director at the Northern Beaches Community Mental Health Service (NBCMHS) very recently. He has worked for a number of years in dual diagnosis psychiatry, treating persons with primary mental illness and comorbid substance abuse disorders. He has also provided expert opinion reports for insurance and Workcover claims.
Dr Smith’s areas of specialty are schizophrenia, mood disorders (bipolar disorder and major depression), anxiety conditions (generalised anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He also assessed persons for ADHD assessment and management.
Dr Smith practices psychiatry with a whole of person, biopsychosocial approach. His focus is on patient wellness through multiple interventions, including medications, psychology and lifestyle change and improvement.

Dr Peter Jones is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK) and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He has been working in the practice of psychiatry since 1996 both in the UK and Australia.
He has particular interest in the treatment of major depression, ADHD, anxiety disorders (including generalised anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder & agoraphobia, PTSD) and expertise in the management of bipolar affective disorder and psychosis.
He has a wealth of experience working as a consultant psychiatrist treating patients in both the private sector as well as acute public mental health facilities, having previously worked as clinical director of psychiatry at Campbelltown and Bathurst hospitals.
He is currently practicing in the Northern Beaches and sees patients over the age of 16.

Dr George Onyema
MBBS, MMSc, MRCPsych, FRANZCP
Dr Onyema trained in psychiatry in Ireland and obtained his membership with Royal College of Psychiatrist (UK). He also completed Masters in Medical Science degree with National University of Ireland Galway. He then relocated to New Zealand and Australia and became a Fellow of the Royal Australia New Zealand College of Psychiatrist.
Since moving to Australia, he has worked mainly on the Central Coast and North Sydney LHD. He has worked in broad range of areas in Mental Health. His special interest is working with adults presenting with psychiatric problems; Psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality and adjustment disorders.

Dr Gordon is a child & adolescent and addiction psychiatrist working in public and private practice on the North Shore of Sydney. He has a passion for helping young people to overcome life’s obstacles and reach their full potential.

Clare Filmer-Ramsay specialises in mental health and addiction, working both in outpatient clinics and providing private counselling within a clinical practice. Clare has worked in residential rehabilitation with a focus on addiction and recovery, and offering one to one or group therapeutic support to clients and in a hospital setting.

Sue Viljoen is a Clinical Counsellor and Psychotherapist. Her aim is to create a supportive and collaborative relationship with clients to build meaningful change. Sue draws on her experience in providing both individual therapeutic support and facilitating group inpatient programs at Northern Beaches Hospital.

Aaron Skilton is a Psychologist who works collaboratively with clients to build long-term psychological wellbeing, foster self-esteem and nurture strengths. Aaron has experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families. He  welcomes clients of all backgrounds including those who identify as LGBTQ+.
Aaron is committed to continuous professional development and the use of various therapeutic approaches as suited to the client’s need. Callise Brooks is a Psychologist and Clinical Psychology Registrar with experience working with adolescents, adults and families. She fosters a warm and empathetic environment for clients and is devoted to creating a relaxed non-judgemental atmosphere.
She is experienced in the assessment and treatment of depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and addiction. She has a special interest in working with clients to increase self-worth, resilience, and psychological flexibility. She is also experienced in working with trauma, adjustment disorder, chronic life struggles, and general mental health difficulties.
